Which crypto should you accept? XRP vs XLM vs USDC vs RLUSD
Brionic bills in four assets: XRP, XLM, USDC, and RLUSD. All four settle in seconds, cost a rounding error to send, and can't be clawed back once they land. So which belongs on your invoices? You can switch on all four, but the trade-offs are worth knowing first.
Two questions really decide it
- Do you need a fixed dollar amount, or can you live with some price movement? Stablecoins (USDC, RLUSD) track the dollar 1:1. The native coins (XRP, XLM) can drift in value between the moment you send an invoice and the moment it's paid.
- Where do your customers already keep funds? XRP and RLUSD live on the XRP Ledger; XLM and USDC (on Brionic) live on Stellar. Paying on the network they already use is the least friction for them.
The four assets, briefly
- XRP, the XRP Ledger's native coin. Clears in roughly 3 to 5 seconds for a fraction of a cent. The price moves. A good fit when customers already hold XRP and aren't fussed about a little market drift.
- XLM, Stellar's native coin, built specifically for payments. Around 5-second settlement, negligible fees. Also volatile. Best for customers who live on Stellar.
- USDC, Circle's dollar stablecoin on Stellar. Worth a dollar today and a dollar when it's paid, with published reserve attestations and support in most wallets. The safe default when price stability matters.
- RLUSD, Ripple's dollar stablecoin on the XRP Ledger, issued under NYDFS supervision. The natural pick for XRP Ledger customers who'd rather pay a fixed dollar figure.
Stablecoin or native coin?
If you're billing a client for a specific dollar figure, which covers most B2B work, a stablecoin takes price risk off the table. A $1,000 invoice is worth $1,000 the day you send it and the day it clears. If you genuinely want some XRP or XLM exposure, or your customers just prefer paying in them, the native coins are great too; just remember the dollar value can wander until payment lands. XRP Ledger or Stellar?
Both networks are quick, cheap, and easy on energy, and Brionic reconciles either one for you, XRP and RLUSD by destination tag, XLM and USDC by memo. What actually decides it is where your customers already hold money. Still torn? The stablecoin angle makes it simpler: USDC vs RLUSD covers that matchup.
A quick cheat sheet
- Want a fixed dollar amount and the widest reach? Go with USDC.
- Want a fixed dollar amount but your customers are on the XRP Ledger? RLUSD.
- Customers who like paying in XRP? Take XRP, and add RLUSD so they've got a stable option on the same chain.
- Customers on Stellar? XLM plus USDC.
The easy answer: turn them all on
You don't have to commit to one. Enable XRP, XLM, USDC, and RLUSD and let each customer pick at checkout. Everything reconciles on-chain by itself, so an extra option costs you no work. It just removes a reason for someone not to pay.
